Necessity is the brother of all invention and there’s nothing that Andrew and Kevin need more than a workshop up at the cottage. But with an order from the parents to keep it discreet and unobtrusive, the boys have some tough decisions to make.
The solution? Naturally, it’s a two-and-a-half ton shipping container! Thanks to Andrew’s sneaky plan, the “can” shows up one day leaving the boys with one colossal makeover challenge.
So what can you possibly make out of an old shipping container, you ask?
Well, tune in Thursday at 9 pm (ET/PT) to Cottage Life to watch the episode and find out. In the meantime, you may want to by inspired by these incredible shipping container homes!
COLORADO SHIPPING CONTAINER HOME BY STUDIO H:T: Rather than building the entire home from shipping containers, the design team here chose to add two storage containers to the outsides of a pre-existing structure. The residence is nestled on a ledge in Nederland, Colorado, and includes roof mounted solar panels! Maybe something for Andrew and Kevin to think about when it’s time to expand the workshop!
MAISON CONTAINER LIFE RESIDENCE: Designed by French architect Patrick Partouche, this home stacked multiple containers one on top of the other, creating 2,238 square feet of living space. This residence took just three days to build. UnBROleviable!
SAVANNAH WOODS SHIPPING CONTAINER DWELLING: A young couple residing in the woodsy town of Savannah, Georgia commissioned Price Street Projects to design and build this tiny home. While it might not look like much from the outside, the white walls, dark floors and skylights provide a nice modern touch throughout the dwelling.
PORT-A-BACH: Designed to be inexpensive and portable, the Port-A-Bach is the exact picture that comes to mind when we think of storage container dwellings. This tiny home was built back in 2007 by the team at Atelierworkshop, and features a double bed alongside two fold out bunk beds, providing sleeping quarters for up to four people. Unfolding the boxy home provides a nice deck to enjoy the outdoors.
SHIPPING CONTAINER COMPLEX IN SCOTLAND: Taking a different approach, Edo Architecture was commissioned to design an entire complex of rentable shipping container residences in Cove Park, Scotland. The team welded six shipping containers together to create a tiny little waterfront resort. Is this the Ultimate Floating Home or what? We’re already seeing the possibilities for Brojects Season 3!
