Last year, Andrew and Kevin, together with their engineer pal Walker, set out to build a playground at their cottage property for the kids. But what they came up with was unsafe, unattractive, and ultimately unused. With pride on the line, they‘re determined to redeem themselves this time around -- or else face the scorn of their wives again -- by tackling the quintessential kids project: a tree fort.

Project Steps

Step 3

To make the Ultimate Kids’ Fort, you’ll need the following materials, most of which are available from your nearest building supplies or hardware store:

• Old Fishing Boat

We have several boats lying about the property and our new kids’ fort was a great new home for an old one that rarely saw much use.

• Lumber

Cedar 6-by-6 posts, 2-by-4’s, 2-by-6’s, and 1-by decking planks to build the structure. We suggest you use the lumber calculator included with the Brojects App (free for iPhone and iPad).

• Hardware

Nuts, bolts, screws, and chain.

• Paint

To turn your old aluminum fishing boat into a colourful dragon.

• Pool Noodles

For the dragon’s ears and horn.

• Rope

To thread the railing around the crow’s nest and to hold the snowboard swing.
