The Ultimate Kids’ Fort
Last year, Andrew and Kevin, together with their engineer pal Walker, set out to build a playground at their cottage property for the kids. But what they came up with was unsafe, unattractive, and ultimately unused. With pride on the line, they‘re determined to redeem themselves this time around -- or else face the scorn of their wives again -- by tackling the quintessential kids project: a tree fort.

Before starting any project, do your due diligence and consult with the pros. For Andrew and Kevin, this usually means a visit from Walker. In this case, it’s the kids who have requested a scary dragon and an Arctic-themed fort. We thought it would be a cool idea to build the fort “kids-style” meaning using only hand tools. So, we visited Sherbrooke Village, a pioneer village located on the shores of the St. Mary’s River in Nova Scotia, to get some pointers on how things were built in the age before power tools.
