For this weekend’s project, Andrew’s daughter Leoni requested a dragon-themed kids’ fort. We’ll start by reusing our old dock as a multi-platform base. A roped-in bridge will lead kids safely to a treetop crow’s nest, ringed in by strung together pine logs, where they’ll come face to face with a scary dragon – actually the roof of the fort made out of an old aluminum boat. The dragon’s spindly tail will be the big circular slide, while the built-in music wall and tin can phone will be the dragon’s roar. We’ll build a rocking snowboard swing off the edge of the fort and a flagpole where the kids can raise the dragon flag to let everyone know this fort is for fun and imagination. As a final touch, we’re challenging ourselves to build the whole thing with hand-powered tools only…just like the forts we used to build when we were kids.
